One day very soon, I’m going to be an aunt! I couldn’t be happier or more excited for my sister and the little baby girl she’s bringing into the world. This month, I helped host a baby shower for her, and since I have the summer off from teaching, that gave me plenty of time to create and plan! Here’s a look at the shower and some ideas for hosting your very own bee-themed baby shower or party.

The Table

The table in the dining room of my parents’ home was the focal point of the baby shower. This is where we served the food, with plenty space to mix and mingle. I bought the circle garland and fans  on sale at a local party supply store, and they really helped to brighten up the room. The centerpiece featured a diaper cake I created, with plenty of diapers to start for the parents-to-bee!

The diaper cake was made by following some super helpful tutorials on Youtube. It was time-consuming to roll and place all the diapers, but with a little practice it became much easier. I decorated the “cake” with colorful ribbon and flowers from Hobby Lobby, and topped it off with a couple of pipe cleaner bees (another super easy DIY). The bees and yellow jars on the table came from Hobby Lobby as well – spring décor was over 60% off, so I got some great deals!

Using my Silhouette Cameo, I cut these adorable vase wraps out of plain scrapbook paper! The vases can be found at Dollar Tree, making this a very budget-friendly but elegant addition to the table. The paper cuttings also served as table confetti.

Baby Shower Food

For food, we did a lot ourselves and also had help from family members who volunteered to bring dishes to the baby shower. We ended up with a beautiful spread with a little something for everyone. On this side of the table are fruit skewers (a variety of fruit simply stacked on skewers), Caprese bites (tomatoes, mozzarella, and a basil leaf on a toothpick), pimento cheese balls with pretzels, and chicken salad on croissants (local grocer Rouses is the best).

We also had cheese and meats, veggies with ranch in individual cups, deviled eggs, hummus and pita, quinoa salad, and pinwheel sandwiches.

Now for the dessert table!

Baby Shower Desserts

The focal point of the dessert display for this baby shower was a doughnut hole beehive “cake,” which was easily put together with a few simple materials. The base is styrofoam sacked to create a beehive shape and covered in foil, and the doughnut holes were placed into the styrofoam base with toothpicks. That’s it! Don’t worry about it looking too perfect or uniform or it will stress you out. We ended up packing the doughnut holes on and I think it turned out super cute. I also added some pipe cleaner bees on wire and stuck them in the base of the cake to complete the beehive effect.

  • Cupcakes and macarons from Sam’s (The macarons come frozen and they are actually good. I promise.)
  • Homemade Italian cookies by my Nonna (can’t beat it!)
  • Candy melts + this mould on Amazon
  • You can easily jazz up something store-bought. For these brownie bites, we placed them in decorative cupcake liners for easier eating, then added a dollop of cream cheese icing and a fresh blueberry!
  • Pretzel sticks can turn into a sweet-and-salty snack by drizzling candy melts over them!
  • What’s a honeybee theme without Honeycomb cereal? Add them to classic rice krispies treats to enhance the bee theme!
  • A sweet and salt popcorn snack mix in cute cups is also an easy addition!

The punch kept to the color scheme – have champagne on the side for guests who’d like to add it to the non-alcoholic punch.

Baby Shower Decorations & Favors

Is it a baby shower without a banner?! I made this Mama-to-Bee banner using my Silhouette to cut the shapes, and embellished it with stickers, washi tape, and some felt flowers.

The honey pot was another 70% off Hobby Lobby steal. We also displayed baby photos of the parents-to-bee!

For a fun touch, I made these ribbons for each generation to wear, as well as one for mama-to-bee!

I used scrapbook paper, Canva, ribbon, and fashioned some simple felt flowers for these.

For favors, each baby shower guest got a little baggie with a couple honey sticks. Use them to sweeten tea or have as a sweet snack – and they are the perfect size for a favor and totally match the theme!

The Mama-to-Bee was glowing and showered with love! Overall, I love how the baby shower turned out. Our guests enjoyed themselves and the decorations as well. This theme is perfect for a baby shower or even a child’s birthday party. There’s so much you can do!
